NARAL Pro-Choice California Endorses Giselle Hale for Assembly

Leading pro-choice organization calls Hale “critical” to fight

REDWOOD CITY, CA — NARAL Pro-Choice California, California’s leading pro-choice advocacy organization, announced today are endorsing to Redwood City Mayor Giselle Hale in Assembly District 21. Hale is the only candidate for AD21 to earn this major endorsement.

“Our nation is facing the likely end of Roe v. Wade, and California’s role in the fight for reproductive freedom has never been more important. Giselle Hale is a critical future leader to protect and expand reproductive freedom for everybody in California—including those forced to travel from out of state to access abortion care,” said Shannon Olivieri Hovis, NARAL Pro-Choice California’s Director.

“California is a Reproductive Freedom State, and we must continue to earn that designation by electing leaders like Hale who will prioritize reproductive freedom for all. NARAL Pro-Choice California is proud to endorse her, and our nearly 300,000 members will be leaving it all on the field to ensure Hale is elected.”

“I am incredibly proud to receive the sole endorsement of NARAL Pro-Choice California,” said Hale. “As the Supreme Court appears ready to overturn Roe v. Wade, state legislatures will be key to protecting access to safe and legal abortion. This endorsement is a testament that voters can count on me to be a relentless champion to safeguard that right for Californians and people across the county.”

Hale was elected to the Redwood City Council in 2018 and became Mayor in 2021. She has been a committed advocate for reproductive freedoms and on issues that impact women and families, including working with Planned Parenthood Mar Monte to protect their clinics in San Mateo County. In addition to her support from NARAL Pro-Choice California, she earned a 100% rating from Planned Parenthood and has been endorsed by key leaders and organizations, including Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Assemblymember Buffy Wicks, Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan (Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Reproductive Health), the California Democratic Legislative Women’s Caucus, California Medical Association and more.

NARAL Pro-Choice California is the leading grassroots pro-choice advocacy organization in California. They work to protect every woman’s right to access the full range of reproductive health options, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. NARAL Pro-Choice California is the state affiliate of NARAL Pro-Choice America.
